I am deeply ashamed that I have read almost no fairytale retellings in my whole 23 years! Especially since this trope is widely talked about right now. And it’s such a fun trope to read, especially if you love Disney as much as I do!
Trope Tuesday is a weekly challenge hosted by Carolynn @ All The Books and Chocolate. Each week there will be a trope for you to use as inspiration. All post types are welcome: lists, book reviews, anything really, feel free to make it your own. You can go here to find out more about Trope Tuesday.
If I talk about all the fairytale retellings I want to read, this list is going to be at least fifty books long, so let’s make this a bit simpler. I’m gonna list the top five Beauty and the Beast retellings that I am dying to read!
Okay, so why Beauty and the Beast? First, there’s Belle: she’s this book nerd with a heart of gold. Second, the Beast’s library: we all want it. Third, the Beast himself: we like them bad-boys-gone-good!
- Title: A Curse So Dark and Lonely
- Author: Brigid Kemmerer
- Series: Cursebreakers #1
A Curse So Dark and Lonely is at the top of my list because that blurb itself drags me into the story! The cover is on point and the reviews are great!
- Title: A Court of Thorns and Roses
- Author: Sarah J. Maas
- Series: A Court of Thorns and Roses #1
I have seen this series being talked about a lot and the fanbase is HUGE! I actually own a copy of the book but I haven’t collected the whole series yet, so I’ll hopefully get to this real fast!
- Title: Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast
- Author: Robin McKinley
- Series: Folktales
This book came out in 1993 and it follows the classic plot, but I’ve seen so many reviews talking about how original it is anyway. Curiosity piqued yet?
- Title: Bryony and Roses
- Author: T. Kingfisher
- Series: none
I’m mostly picking this up because of all the positive feedback the book received. From what I gather, it’s Beauty and the Beast but with an emphasis on gardening?
- Title: Heart’s Blood
- Author: Juliet Marillier
- Series: none
My GoodReads friends have raved about this book! It’s an Irish take on the fairytale and the Beast and his story in this story is apparently very unique.
I’m very impressed by how this one fairytale has numerous unique retellings! How do authors come up with all this greatness? I can just imagine them convened around the Great Storytelling Cauldron and mixing great stories every time they wanna write.
What are some Beauty and the Beast retellings that you’re excited for or love? I’m a sucker for this genre so leave some recommendations in the comments below!

I can’t believe you haven’t read many! And beauty and the beast is by far the most popular. Check out Cruel Beauty, it is one of my favorite retellings!
IKR! I was so disappointed in myself! Haha! Ooooooh I’ve heard of it actually! Totally gonna check it out! Thanks for the recommendation!!!
