The Contradictions Book Tag

The Contradictions Book Tag

Happy Tuesday, readers! I am back with a book tag that I have wanted to do ever since I first saw it done by Dini @ dinipandareads: the Contradictions Book Tag created by Daniela @ If Only For A Page! I have been doing so many book lists and reviews, so now feels like the perfect time to spice things up with a fun book tag! Let’s get started!

1. I love this genre but I didn’t like this book.

the midnight library by matt haig

This is probably a controversial opinion but I just did not like this book. I buddy-read it with some Instagram buddies and we had a mixed opinion on this book by the end of it. I love fantasy and magical realism but I just couldn’t get into this book.

2. I rarely read this genre but I loved this book.

I hardly read any science fiction that has no romance in it, so I was shocked when I fell in love with this beautiful queer, dystopian perfection. I will forever keep recommending this book to everyone who wants a quick but gut-wrenching step into the sci-fi genre. Who knew this book would actually make me tear up?

3. I love this trope but I didn’t like this book.

the insiders by tijan

The Insiders had every trope I could ask for: bodyguard romance, alpha male, forced proximity and a healthy dose of steam. But I felt nothing towards this book from the first chapter. I am guessing I am one of the minority since this book has a Goodreads rating of 4.22 but I was a cold fish while I was reading this one!

4. I hate this trope but I loved this book.

clockwork angel by cassandra clare

I absolutely loathe a love triangle but this book… this series made me cry over one, so it did the impossible and won me over with the love triangle of all love triangles! This trilogy is now one of my all-time favourites!

5. I love this author but I didn’t like this book.

servant mage by kate elliott

I read Kate Elliott’s Court of Fives as an advanced copy when it first came out and loved it but this little fantasy novella just didn’t hit the spot with me. It’s an interesting world with lots of potential but maybe a novella wasn’t the best way to explore that?

6. I previously disliked a book by this author but I loved this book.

graveminder by melissa marr

This one was a toughie because I hardly pick up authors that I do not like on the first go, but years back I remember picking up Graveminder even though I did not like Marr’s Wicked Lovely series. I have always loved stories that dealt with the morbid, so the synopsis really compelled me to pick this book up despite who the author was. I was glad I did because I ended loving this morbid Undertaker-Graveminder tale!

7. I love this cover but I don’t like this book.

someone like me by marian l. thomas

I had huge expectations for this book because look at that cover! It’s gorgeous! But alas, my expectations were not met and I was sorely disappointed!

8. I don’t like this cover but I loved this book.

wait for you by j. lynn

Honestly I think this series has such lame covers but the books are so good! I haven’t read the whole series yet but I can’t imagine the rest of the series could ever beat Cam and Avery’s epic romance!

  1. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy Midnight Library but I have seen very mixed reviews about the book. It’s still on my TBR and I’m still looking forward to reading it but I’m definitely going in with low expectations! 😂 Great post, I loved reading your answers!

    1. I would definitely recommend reading it because it’s such an interesting concept but how you interpret the execution of it is totally up to you! I really hope you like it! 😀
