August 2020 Book Releases

August 2020 Book Releases

I may not read all new book releases that I look forward to, but I definitely do add them to my Goodreads TBR! Here’s a look at all the August 2020 book releases I added to my TBR:

Little Threats

Little Threats by Emily Schultz
  • Author: Emily Schultz
  • Genre: mystery, thriller
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 4th
  • Publisher: G.P. Putnam’s Sons

Murder, family drama and it’s the wrongfully accused suspect investigating? Sounds like everything you need in a wholesome murder mystery, so I’m totally down for this one!

Set Fire to the Gods

Set Fire to the Gods by Sara Raasch & Kristen Simmons

This story has two of my favourite things: female gladiators and gods. And can we freak out over how the publisher described it as “Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Gladiator“? Duh, I’m picking this up.

Lobizona

Lobizona by Romina Garber

I have never read anything to do with Argentine folklore and I’m a big mythology/folklore buff, so that’s disappointing. And can we just appreciate the beauty of that cover?

The Lions of Fifth Avenue

The Lions at Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis
  • Author: Fiona Davis
  • Genre: historical fiction, mystery
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 4th
  • Publisher: Dutton Books

This book is basically a double mystery involving a library… how can anyone I say ‘no’ to that?

The Black Kids

The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed
  • Author: Christina Hammonds Reed
  • Genre: historical fiction, contemporary
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 4th
  • Publisher: Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers

With the #BlackLivesMatter movement, I have been putting in more effort to read diverse books because I was ashamed at how little of the genre I’ve read. And this book has a fab cover, so of course, it’s going on my TBR.

Loathe at First Sight

Loathe at First Sight by Suzanne Park
  • Author: Suzanne Park
  • Genre: romance, contemporary, adult
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 4th
  • Publisher: Avon

I’m trash for any romance that isn’t insta love. I love that this is a workplace romance where the woman seems to be actually doing big things rather than being the shy fumbling intern!

Cut Off

Cut Off by Adrienne Finlay
  • Author: Adrianne Finlay
  • Genre: science fiction, young adult, thriller, mystery, romance
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 11th
  • Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers

I’m very picky when it comes to sci-fi reads, but this wilderness survival reality TV gone wrong seems to be a lot more than just sci-fi. I’ve also seen reviews that commended it on being an ‘intelligent’ story, so I’m all for it.

Sisters

Sisters by Daisy Johnson
  • Author: Daisy Johnson
  • Genre: contemporary, psychological horror, adult
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 13th
  • Publisher: Jonathan Cape

I’ve never read any Daisy Johnson books before but this book’s ARC got crazy good reviews!

Six Angry Girls

Six Angry Girls by Adrienne Kisner
  • Author: Adrienne Kisner
  • Genre: contemporary, young adult, LGBTQ
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 18th
  • Publisher: Feiwel & Friends

It’s a gorgeous cover, knitting and feminism: all my favourite things!

All Eyes on Her

All Eyes on Her by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
  • Author: Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
  • Genre: thriller, mystery, young adult
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 18th
  • Publisher: Imprint

Once again, it’s a murder mystery, but the catch in this story is that it’s told from the perspective of everyone other than the main suspect! Talk about a social experiment…

Where Dreams Descend

Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles

I’m in love with this cover! Also, it’s been touted as a Phantom of the Opera and Moulin Rouge mashup!

Now That I’ve Found You

Now That I've Found You by Kristina Forest
  • Author: Kristina Forest
  • Genre: young adult, romance, contemporary
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 25th
  • Publisher: Roaring Brook Press

This sounds like a fun, lighthearted and cute romance that’ll make me giggle and smile the whole time.

The Anti-Boyfriend

The Anti-Boyfriend by Penelope Ward
  • Author: Penelope Ward
  • Genre: romance, contemporary, adult
  • Series: none
  • Expected publication: August 31st
  • Publisher:

Guys, it’s a hot neighbour who turns out to be a baby whisperer AND it’s a friends-to-lovers romance! I’m trash for these tropes, so I don’t really need any more convincing.
