Surprise – A book that you were surprised you enjoyed as much as you did
- Title: Mercurial
- Author: Naomi Hughes
- Pub. date: 16 March 2021
- Genre: young adult, romance, fantasy
I went into this book not knowing anything about Naomi Hughes or much about the story really other than that it had a fantasy element and the enemies-to-lovers trope. It was more of a cover pick honestly. Then I read it in almost one day I think and oh god, the rollercoaster of emotions I went through were just brutal! I am surprised I managed a coherent review of this one because ask me about this book now and I would still spiral into a breakdown over my emotional experience reading it!
Fear – A book that had you on the edge of your seat
- Title: Pet Sematary
- Author: Stephen King
- Pub. date: 14 November 1983
- Genre: horror, mystery, thriller
This was my first Stephen King novel and leave it to me to pick the one that disturbed the author himself with the boundaries this story challenged! LOL! Also, I am a huge pet lover and I have four dogs with me right now, so I was creeped out! Never take me near a pet cemetery of any kind after this because I will probably throw a fit after having read this horror masterpiece!
Joy – A book that fills you with unbridled joy
- Title: Carry On
- Author: Rainbow Rowell
- Pub. date: 6 October 2015
- Genre: young adult, fantasy, romance
Another book that had me rolling with emotions this year! Oh gosh! This book had the potential to kill me with how much it made me feel! I was crying tears of joy when I finished this book. I was genuinely happy for the characters and the way the author wrote this story? I get chills thinking about all the emotions I went through. But guys, the mere mention of this book fills me with so much joy!
Nostalgia – a book you’ve read in the past that fills you with nostalgia
- Title: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
- Author: J.K. Rowling
- Pub. date: 26 June 1997
- Genre: young adult, fantasy
I read Philosopher’s Stone years and years back, from a period when we used to move around frequently from house to house until my family finally settled down. Just thinking about this book reminds me of one of the houses we used to live in and all the memories of my childhood from that carefree period! It isn’t really the book itself that makes me nostalgic but the memory of first reading that book is just powerfully embedded in my mind!
Excitement – an anticipated release you’re excited to read once it’s released
- Title: A Shadow in the Ember
- Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
- Pub. date: 19 October 2021
- Genre: adult, fantasy, romance
Anyone who has been following my Bookstagram for a while knows I am a huge Blood and Ash series fan, so of course I can’t wait for this prequel series!!! I expect this book and this series to wreck my soul and I will gladly volunteer for the experience! It would be fully worth it!

loved reading your answers, and your graphics are so pretty!!
Thank you, Saima! You inspired me to try my hand at being creative TBH!!! <3
I love a book that makes you feel – I won’t be adding Pet Sematary as I don’t like horror and I’ve read all the HP books, but I will look up the rest.
I’ve given up on the Blood & Ash series – there was just too much waffle and filler for my tastes even though I loved the writing and story – but I hope you love the prequel!
Then I’m sure you’ll love Carry On! I hope I get to read ASITE as soon as it comes out!
