New-To-Me Authors: Top Ten Tuesday

New-To-Me Authors: Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I am so excited about this prompt! I have many many many new-to-me authors in my physical TBR that I either randomly picked up or someone recommended to me. True to today’s theme, I’ll list out the top ten that I am most excited for!

10. Alice Walker’s The Color Purple

This is a classic that made it onto my 2021 TBR last year. This award-winning novel cam highly recommended especially during the BLM movement and I grabbed it the moment I saw a copy in a local bookstore!

9. Samantha Young

I am exactly halfway through collecting the On Dublin Street series because I need a good ol’ healthy dose of Scottish romance in my life! I picked up this series for the hype and based on the reviews I have seen, the hype is well-deserved! Can’t wait to finish collecting this series!

8. Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind

I am a huge fan of this movie! And guess what? So is my mom! I got my hands on a beautiful secondhand copy of this book and I am so excited to read this tome for 2021!

7. Christina Lauren

I am a sucker for cute, steamy contemporary romances, so I am collecting the Beautiful Bastard series. I have Books Three and Four right now, so I have only got 3 more books to go, not counting the novellas.

6. Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens

In all honesty, not only am I excited about this book, I am intimidated by the length of this tome as well. I picked up Sapiens because it came highly recommended by a bunch of my friends, so there’s no way this read can fail me at this point!

5. Leigh Bardugo

I own just two books of the Grishaverse series, Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows. I plan on collecting all the books before I start reading the series because, based on the hype, I do not think I will survive waiting for the next books to arrive if I start reading now!

4. Tara Westover’s Educated

I still don’t remember who or what list recommended this book to me, but this book has been on my wishlist for a while and I finally got my hands on a copy last year! This is once again another 2021 read I am really excited about!

3. Kathryn Stockett’s The Help

I watched the star-studded movie years back and I loved it! I bought this book way back too, but I never got around to reading it! Unfortunately for me, now when I am really hyped to read it, I have left it back home in my own library, and I am over at my grandma’s!

2. Delia Owens’ Where the Crawdads Sing

I am planning on reading Where the Crawdads Sing soon. I picked up this book purely based on the hype and the five-star reviews that were running amuck about this book.

1. Sarah J. Maas

I picked up all three of the ACOTAR books purely based on the hype and the fanart I kept seeing on Instagram. This is the series that I am most pumped about hopefully starting soon! The only reason that I haven’t is that my copy of Book One isn’t with me right now. But it will happen, folks! Also, I am slowly but steadily building my Throne of Glass series; I have three of the seven books so far.

And that is my list of top ten new-to-me authors this year! I would say all of them are very well-known authors, so I’m sure y’all would know quite a few of them!

Comment below your own TTT links so I can take a look at them too! And let me know any other authors I should read based on these ten that I am excited about!

  1. I’ve read all of Leigh Bardugo’s books aside from her Grishaverse series. I think I need to do the same thing as you and collect all of the books before reading. It seems like a nice one to binge!

  2. I’m from the southern US and I just find myself cringing at books based in the south! lol. It’s just something about reading our accents that gives me a twitch. I also have a few books that I need to read where I watched the movie first! Hope you enjoy!

  3. Wow, you’ve got some great ones on your list! I adore THE HELP and GONE WITH THE WIND. It’s been a long time since I read THE COLOR PURPLE. I know it deals with some tough subject matter, but I remember liking it. I hope you enjoy all your picks!

    Happy TTT!

  4. I love that you found CL. Their catalog is so good! I have only met one or two of their books that were only likes instead of loves, so you really can’t go wrong.
